Day 158 - Screen | Bus Conversion

Today I worked on making screens that go over the 3 pop up vents that are in the bus.

I designed a magnetic screen so that it could be remove fairly easily so .

I picked up a roll of fiberglass screen and 3 rolls of magnetic stripping from Lowe's.

I cut the screen at 29" x 29" and stuck the self stick magnetic to the screen. Then I flipped the screen over so that the magnet faced down and used a hot glue gun to glue the screen to the magnet:

Now the screen is ready to be installed:

Here it is installed:

I also varnished and installed the two counter pieces at each end of the dinette.

LOWE'S DEAL ALERT UPDATE:

I was at Lowe's yesterday and I came across a DeWalt XP 14 Piece Drill Bit Set for $15. This set also includes the $10 Off card. So you end up paying only $5 for the set. A very good deal for any drill bit set. Make sure if you are doing a project to pick up some of these great deals. You really can't beat the price on these especially if you have a project going.

See the below post for more Lowe's deals!

Here is the previous Lowe's Deal Alert that I posted:

I should have posted this some time ago but better now then never.
Lowe's has a deal going right now on DeWalt driver sets. I have bought many of these and I will tell you why.

The two sets pictured above each come enclosed with a $10 off coupon for the next time that you shop at Lowe's. You do have to spend $50 to get the $10 discount. Not a big deal if you have a project going. It ends up being 20% off of $50. The set to the left costs about $13 and the set to the right costs about $10. So for the set on the left you end up paying $3 (after the $10 off) for it and the set on the right you get for free (after the $10 off)! How cool is that? Buy one each time you shop, use the card inside and you can give away, or ebay the sets that you don't want to keep. Sometimes these are hard to find.

The electrical panel now has paneling around it. This sits in the front lower cabinet by the door.

Today I worked on the closets in the master bedroom. Being that the wheel well stick up in the closet I covered them first.

Then I installed one shelf at the top:

I still have to install the dowel to hang clothes on.

Here is another pic:

I did the same this for each of the two closets.

Day 154 - More Trim, Door Knobs & Counter Top | Bus Conversion

Here are some more pics of things that have been done on the bus:

This is a pic of the trim that has been installed at the top of the upper cabinets. I have also installed this trim above the cabinets in the master bedroom.

I also treated the stone in the kitchen and in the bathroom.

In this pic you can see the counter top (to the left) that sits at the very front of the bus behind the dinette seat next to the front door. It has been stained and still needs to be varnished. I also will be installing trim under where the windows are.

Here is a close up:

Here is a pic of the varnished counter top that sits right under the TV. I also installed the door knobs on the bedroom door and the bathroom door.

It is really getting close day by day. Not to much more to do.

Day 152 - Bathroom A/C Vent | Bus Conversion

For some time it has bothered me that the bathroom will be cut off from the A/C or heat when the door is closed which will be the case most of the time. So I figured I would go ahead and attach a custom vent that will run from the A/C unit to the bathroom.

So this is what I did. I had some plastic pipe and a vent sitting around:

I took down the interior A/C cover and cut a hole in the side:

Then I cut a hole in the metal on the A/C bracket and a hole in the bathroom wall and ran the pipe through:

Next I mounted the vent in the bathroom:

I tested it and it seems to work well. Just a small amount of air comes through. Just enough for the small size of the bathroom!

Day 149 - Bathroom Tile | Bus Conversion

Today we decided to go ahead and install the stone tile in the bathroom.

Here is a pic of the floor after the Hardy Backer was installed:

Next was the task of cutting a hole for the 3" toilet drain pipe. I did not have a hole saw big enough so I drilled holes in a circular pattern and then used a sawzall to cut it out.

Next was laying the tile. I am usually prepared but I could not find my tile trowel so I made one out of sheet metal.

Here is all the tile laid:

Day 148 - Trim & More | Bus Conversion

This is how the table will make into a bed. It lays on a strip of trim on each side of the dinette seats flush with the surface of the seat.

Today I mainly worked on getting the stainless hood vent trimmed out. Here is a sequence of pictures showing the work:

There was still a gap at the rear of the vent. This is a before shot:

Here is the after:

Next I attached the corner bead on each side of the vent:
